Associate Project Engineer

The Associate Project Engineer will assist the Project Manager with the organization, administration, and coordination of all the elements involved in labor, materials, equipment, supplies and utilities, technology and methods, and time needed to complete construction projects on schedule, within the budget, and according to specified standards of quality and performance. Depending upon the size and complexity of a project, the construction engineer may be responsible for several jobs. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Assist with the installation, servicing, troubleshooting, and programming of IP video systems, networked access control, audio/video systems, access control systems, programmable logic controllers, intercom/paging systems and PLC/Network switches. 

  • Assist with the design drawings and material selection for Detention control and monitoring projects. 

  • Learn how to program and set up Access Control systems. 

  • Learn how to program and set up Video Management Systems. 

  • Assist the Senior Engineer with preparing and compiling project estimates 

  • Assist the Senior Engineer with engineering cost-effective solutions on projects 

  • Assist the Senior Engineer with selecting and obtaining the project parts & materials 

  • Assisting with the preparation, submission, and tracking of Project Submittals 

  • Assisting with the preparation, submission, and tracking of Project Shop Drawings 

  • Assisting with acquiring and comparing vendor quotes for project materials 

  • Assisting with creating and maintaining as-built drawings on completed projects 

  • Assisting with creating and submitting operation and maintenance manuals 

  • Responsible for tracking warrantied products on completed projects 

  • Responsible for facility clearances and escort coordination 

  • Responsible for the development, planning, and updating of overall project schedule. 

  • Assist creating and tracking Project Proposals and Project Change Orders 

  • Responsible for project materials management 

  • Assist the Senior Engineer with engineering, construction, and testing of electronic system components (such as CCTV, PLC, & Audio systems) 

  • Work with Project Coordinator to manage project field team 

 

Skills and Abilities: 

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, project documents, drawings and specifications 

  • Experience with AutoCAD or similar software preferred 

  • Knowledge of computers and I.T. networks preferred 

  • Strong oral communication and interpersonal skills 

  • Technical writing skills 

  • Natural mechanical/electrical/electronic skills and aptitude  

  • Must have strong organizational and time management skills, and the ability to prioritize competing requirements 

  • Ability to provide positive results and outcomes without the need for micro-managing from the Senior Engineer 

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite  

  • Analytical and problem-solving skills 

 

Education/Experience: 

  • Minimum of 2 years of  project engineer/management experience preferred 

  • Minimum of 3 years field experience in electrical/ electronics / computers / networks 

  • Construction experience preferred 

 

Working Conditions: 

Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards. Must have the ability to walk short distances, and/or drive a vehicle to deliver and pick up materials.  Visits to job sites, with exposure to moving machinery, loud noise and vibration, and other construction hazards. 

  

Travel Requirements: 

  • Willing to travel as needed to visit job sites to commission/finalize projects and monitor progress of work on projects.  There will be some time spent in the field instructing field teams in processes and procedures on installations as well as answering questions and problem-solving issues that arise through the project.  Typical travel is 1 – 5 days. 

  • Attendance at on-site job meetings will be required for projects that the General Contractor mandates attendance.
